Since late November, demonstrations at Kyiv’s Maidan have gripped all of Ukraine and the Ukrainian diaspora. The horrific state-sanctioned violence witnessed last week appalled and angered the world. Claiming the lives of some 80 people and injuring many others, the violence was the worst Ukraine has seen in its 23 years as an independent nation. Following these events, Ukraine’s acting President, Oleksandr Turchynov, called for national days of mourning. On February 22, the Ukrainian Parliament voted to dismiss President Yanukovych, whose government bears responsibility for the murder of its own people. Last week, SUSK commemorated those who lost their lives and expressed their continued support for Ukraine and its people.
