March 9th, 2014 marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Taras Shevchenko – Ukrainian poet, artist, literary father, and political and social activist. Shevchenko is widely regarded as the most important contributor to the development of Ukrainian language and literature. His life and work were dedicated to the Ukrainian nation. Indeed, his biggest dream was to see an independent Ukraine – a Ukraine in which the language, culture and history of its people are endorsed and nourished. This dream is incredibly relevant today, as Ukraine undergoes a remarkable transformation.
SUSK is proud to announce the launch of the SUSK Shevchenko Hope t-shirt project. Introduced in 2011, the project was successful among students and community members across the country. “Надія,” written under Shevchenko’s image, represents his everlasting hope for a free and independent Ukraine – a hope that is carried in the hearts of all Ukrainians. This year, the initiative is intended as a tribute to both Shevchenko and the spirit of Euromaidan. Detailed information is included below. A portion of the project’s proceeds will go towards supporting Maidan in Kyiv, Ukraine.
