On March 3, the Ukrainian Canadian Students’ Union (SUSK) hosted a discussion on tuition advocacy for Ukrainian newcomers, bringing together student leaders and community members to address financial barriers faced by Ukrainian students in Canada. The conversation focused on strategies to improve access to scholarships, tuition exemptions, and financial aid.
Key Initiatives and Next Steps
Following the discussion, SUSK has outlined several key actions to advance tuition advocacy efforts:
-
Developing an Online Resource Hub – A centralized platform will be created to provide information on scholarships, tuition exemption policies, and financial aid opportunities.
-
Coordinating Advocacy Efforts – SUSK will collaborate with UCC branches, universities, and student organizations to push for consistent domestic tuition policies across Canada.
-
Engaging with Government Officials – Plans are underway to meet with the Ontario Minister of Colleges and Universities to discuss tuition support for Ukrainian students.
-
Raising Awareness Through Media – SUSK will highlight student experiences and challenges through media outreach to increase public and institutional support.
-
Strengthening University Partnerships – SUSK aims to work closely with universities, particularly smaller institutions, to explore sustainable financial aid solutions for Ukrainian newcomers.
How the Community Can Help
SUSK encourages students, community members, and organizations to take part in advocacy efforts by:
-
Sharing resources – If you have information on scholarships or financial aid, SUSK is collecting relevant data to expand its resource hub.
-
Supporting media outreach – Students and families willing to share their experiences are encouraged to connect with SUSK to raise awareness.
-
Advocating at universities – Student organizations are encouraged to engage with their institutions to push for tuition support initiatives.
-
Staying informed and involved – SUSK will continue to share updates and welcomes collaboration with individuals and organizations.
With collective action, SUSK aims to make post-secondary education more accessible for Ukrainian students in Canada.
