The Ukrainian Canadian Civil Liberties Foundation (UCCLF) has launched its fourth annual student writing competition. There are two awards of which to be aware.
The Civil Liberties Opinion-Editorial Award is the one that all SUSK students are eligible. It requires a high school or post-secondary student to submit an op-ed into a major Canadian newspaper (there is a list on the UCCLF website at ucclf.ca ). The op-ed must be published in one of those 22 papers in the country. The topic of the op-ed must be on a civil liberties theme. We suggest the Holodomor (2008 having marked the 75th anniversary), Canada’s first national internment operations (2014 will mark the 100 year anniversary of the start of this) and human trafficking (which seems to be gaining traction as an international issue). Of course, students are not limited to these issues.
The other award is the High School Civil Liberties Award . It is limited to high school students, but SUSK members may have siblings, friends, etc. that might be interested and eligible.
